What is the YouTube tag character counter?
This local checker helps you manage the combined length of a video tag field, using 500 visible characters as a working setting. YouTube notes that titles, thumbnails and descriptions generally matter more than tags, so do not sacrifice quality just to fill the field.
The 500-character setting and tag count
Every visible Unicode grapheme in the field is counted, including commas, spaces and emoji. 450–499 is close and 500 is the working limit. It does not judge keyword relevance, tag policy or dynamic Studio restrictions.
Example
Paste “video editing, Premiere Pro, creator tools, editing tips” and commas and spaces are included. At 468 characters, remove near-duplicate tags instead of adding words merely to fill the allowance.
How to use
- Enter comma-separated tags or paste a tag draft from Studio.
- Review the full character total and 500-character status.
- Copy the summary and confirm the final accepted value in YouTube Studio.
