What does the YouTube description checker do?

Video descriptions often combine a summary, chapters, partnership details and links. This local checker measures the complete draft against YouTube’s published 5,000-character limit so you can shorten it before upload.

The 5,000-character setting and count

Unicode grapheme clusters are counted, including whitespace, line breaks and visible emoji. 4,500–4,999 is close and 5,000 is at the setting. This tool does not validate links, chapters or policy compliance.

Example

Paste a description with chapter timestamps, product links and a bilingual summary to see the remaining space instantly. At 4,760 characters, remove a repeated subscription prompt before reaching the upload screen.

How to use

  1. Paste the description, including line breaks, chapters and links.
  2. Read the live character total and 5,000-character status.
  3. Copy the summary or reset the draft before your final Studio validation.
