What is this Instagram caption counter?

Use this local counter to review an Instagram caption before publishing. It uses 2,200 visible characters as its configured limit and warns as you get close; the live Instagram composer remains the final authority.

Counting method and 2,200-character setting

Characters are Unicode grapheme clusters, so joined emoji, accents and Chinese text are counted as visible characters. 2,000–2,199 is close, 2,200 is at the configured limit, and a larger total is over it. This is not an Instagram API check.

Example

In “New launch 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 #lifestyle”, the family emoji is not split into its underlying code points. A 2,050-character draft is marked close to the 2,200-character setting so you can tighten it before posting.

How to use

  1. Paste or type the caption you plan to publish.
  2. Read the live visible-character count and limit status.
  3. Copy the summary or reset the text before your final Instagram check.

Frequently asked questions

Does this validate my live Instagram post?

No. The tool does not connect to Instagram or read account data; it provides a local pre-publish check only.

How are emoji counted?

Visible grapheme clusters are counted, so joined family, flag and skin-tone emoji normally count as one character.

Are hashtags included?

Yes. Every visible character in the box counts. Use the separate Hashtag Counter when you also need a tag total.
