Calculate CTR
What does CTR show?
CTR, or click-through rate, is the share of impressions that lead to a click. It is an early signal of whether creative, message, placement and audience are appealing, but it does not prove those clicks will convert.
CTR formula
CTR = clicks ÷ impressions × 100%. Impressions must be greater than zero. One person may generate several impressions, which is why reach is not an interchangeable denominator.
Creative test example
An ad with 500 impressions and 15 clicks has a 3% CTR. If another creative reaches 4% with comparable placement and audience, check its conversion quality before shifting budget.
How to use
- Enter clicks from one reporting period.
- Enter the matching number of impressions, not reach.
- Calculate the percentage and compare it with a like-for-like benchmark.
Frequently asked questions
Does a high CTR mean an ad is successful?
Not by itself. CTR measures click intent; engagement after the click, conversion rate, CPA and ROAS determine commercial value.
Should I use all clicks or link clicks?
Use the click definition that matches the goal. Link clicks are common for traffic campaigns, and every compared campaign should use the same definition.
Can clicks be zero?
Yes. With at least one impression, zero clicks correctly produces a 0% CTR and shows that the current asset did not attract clicks.
