Calculate conversion rate

Why track conversion rate?

Conversion rate is the share of visitors who complete a target action, such as a purchase, form submission, registration or download. It measures post-click efficiency, provided both the conversion event and visitor population stay consistent.

Conversion-rate formula

Conversion rate = conversions ÷ visitors × 100%. Visitors must be greater than zero. If one visitor can convert more than once, confirm whether your report uses users, sessions or events before interpreting the number.

Landing-page example

A landing page with 2,000 visitors and 80 form submissions has a 4% conversion rate. After changing a headline or form, compare another period with similar traffic sources before calling it an improvement.

How to use

  1. Define one clear conversion event.
  2. Enter conversions and visitors for the same period.
  3. Calculate the percentage, then compare similar sources or page versions.

Frequently asked questions

Is a higher conversion rate always better?

It is usually positive, but check order quality, refunds, average order value and acquisition cost so low-value actions are not being optimized in isolation.

Should visitors mean users or sessions?

Either can work, but they are not interchangeable. Choose the denominator for the question you are answering and keep it fixed within a report.

Can conversions be zero?

Yes. With one or more visitors, zero conversions correctly returns a 0% conversion rate and shows that no target action occurred.
